Delaware County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan

The Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 (DMA 2000) requires local communities to develop and implement mitigation plans to identify and prioritize natural hazards and develop strategies to reduce the impact of hazards when they occur. Complying with DMA 2000 also allows local communities to be eligible for federal mitigation planning grants. The Delaware County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan will meet this requirement and provide a coordinated approach to hazard mitigation and help ensure that future mitigation projects support protection of the community in the most effective and efficient manner possible.

To oversee the process locally, the All-Hazard Steering Committee was formed. It consists of numerous County agencies including Code Enforcement, Planning, Emergency Services, Public Works, Public Health, Social Services, and the Sheriff’s Office as well as other organizations like the NY State Emergency Management Office (SEMO) and the Soil and Water Conservation District and DEP. The most important participants, however, will be the individual municipalities, local officials, and the public who have valuable information to contribute to this multi-jurisdictional effort.
